    Default M106..No SN!!

Well, last night was super clear, so I thought I'd see if I could image the SN in M106. Unfortunately, either my scope is too small, or my AP skills are too poor! Anyway, I combined last nights data with the data I took on the 17th and came up with this.
    C8EdgeHD/.7x reducer/EOS60Da
    78 Light @ ISO800 x 300 sec.
    15 Dark
    15 Flat
    30 Bias
    Processed in PixInsight
    Hope ya like it!

That is a very good image. I don't think the difficulty in identifying the supernova is a lack of skill. I think it just takes some really good equipment - not the kind of thing we amateurs normally use.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are amateurs getting decent imaging, but it's not what most of us could manage

    Hi,

Here is a extract from a link I will add below.

For two weeks, the supernova in M106 remained pinned at around magnitude +15, too faint to tease out from the galaxy’s bright, compact nucleus for most amateur telescopes. But a photograph taken by Gianluca Masi and team on May 21 indicate it may have brightened somewhat. They estimated its red magnitude – how bright it appears when photographed through a red filter – at +13.5. A spectrum made of the object reveals the ruby emission of hydrogen light, the telltale signature of a Type II supernova event.

So your scope and skills are good!! Just not on this one.

    Cheers
