Default "Total Lunar Eclipse"...Captured on the 16th!!!

You're probably wondering how I managed to capture this image of the "Total Lunar Eclipse" a day after the actual event?

Well for anyone that understands the principles behind the formula e=mc² it really wasn't that difficult...

Seriously though, I had 3" of snow last night, and never caught a glimpse of the real eclipse, much less took any photos of it. But I put so much time into preparing for this event...I was going to have my eclipse one way or another!

This image was actually taken on the 16th (the day after the actual eclipse), and modified in PS to resemble a "Total Lunar Eclipse". I also posted the original unedited image of the Moon taken on the 16th. Just to show what the Moon actually looked like this night. It was taken with my Canon 550D DSLR camera, and a 300mm Lens @ f/8 1/500th.

It still amazes me how the sky can be so clear the night before ANY celestial event, cloudy with 3" of snow the day of the event, and then the clearest sky I can remember the following night!

I'm sure if you look hard enough at that Moon image you can see it laughing at me, after evading me yet again on one of it's grandest nights!

Hope you like my simulated "Total Lunar Eclipse"...I was actually surprised at how "real" I could make it look.

    Thanks for looking!

I did like your "simulated" eclipse! It was a shame the cloud gods ruined it for most of you over there, maybe next time! Thanks for posting.

    Thanks Lea.

It was rough missing out on yet another celestial event like this. But it makes it SOOO much worse when you get a perfectly clear sky the very next night!

Oh well, like you said...Maybe next time!

Hi Marlk just back from a trip to Scotlands very own darck site Galloway Forrest Park. Sorry to hear your weather sucked. I had quite a clear night at loch Doon but the moon was soo bright that imaging was a bust. I did take a few Moonscapes though will share them when I back from Glasgow.

    P.S. Love the Sepia Moon

Hi Mark. This is a pretty nice simulation from you. You did a fine job on the original image, and some good color adaptations on the simulation. Thanks for sharing this with us Mark, and best wishes on a better shot on the original the next time around.
