Default M76 the Little Dumbell Nebula

This is the Little Dumbell, overshadowed by it's bigger brother, but not forgotten. Imaged on 26 July, but I finished up at 3 am, and needed to get the beach for a weeks vacation that morning, so I never even took the SD card out of the camera until now.

Semi clear night (wow!) with about a 70% moon, so I fitted the Baader Moon/Skyglow filter and took 11, five minute guided images at ISO 800. Stacked in DSS with a 95% keeper rate, so this is 10 images, 50 minutes on the target. Processed in CS5, no crop, noise removal by Noiseware Community Edition and final color tweak in MS Live Photo Gallery.

This is with the AT6RC on the ZEQ25 mount, guided with PHD and a Lodestar/Borg 50mm. The mount was tracking very well despite the high clouds, moon and humidity. A little stretching in the stars to the left due to the AT2FF not being quite square I'm sure.

Thanks for looking, cheers to all,

    Paul

    Hello Paul,

that's a very nice Little Dumbbell, the both condensations in the outer shell are also well visible.

    Thanks for sharing,

Thank you JG, too bad I only had about an hour left to image...I was imaging another DSO at 15 minutes, ISO 400 before I decided to finish up on this one. Not bad for 50 minutes though, I've done worse...

    Cheers,

    Paul

Thank you John, this one is tougher than it looks, and really needs a larger instrument and CCD camera to really pull it out. Or, simply more time on target with the Dslr..?

    Regards,

    Paul

    Paul,

nice image. I can always spot the AT6RC images based on the stars. Having good luck with that mount?

Hi Dan and thanks. I am having extremely good luck with the mount. It just does everything I want it to with a minimum of fuss, and I really believe in the 'KISS' principle.

The same night I grabbed some 15 minute subs as a favor to some CCD imagers who asked how long the mount would track, haven't gotten around to processing them yet, but they should tell the story?

I will try to get to them tonight, but if it's clear, they may have to wait a bit longer...

    Regards,

    Paul

Hello Paul. Sure glad that you remembered about that SD card in the camera, or we all might have missed this nice image. Very nice color for such a small object. Thanks for giving us a look, and keep up the good work.

Looks great, Paul! Very well done! I did not have the courage to try this target due to its small size. Thanks for sharing.
