Yes, it's everybody's favorite first target:

Nikon D50, 4 x 60s subs, ISO800 at prime focus. All stacking/processing in photoshop. Masked the center a bit to compensate for the normal overexposure of the Trapezium but that's the only fancy bit I did to it. Now to get a nice pier set up so I don't have to mess with polar aligning the mount every time I want to image... Oh and maybe get the hyperstar lens and a nice camera to go with it - my scope already has the hyperstar conversion kit on the secondary

Celestron C6 and CG5 goto mount (gathering dust mostly), CGEM mount for the big boy!
Canon T3/1100D (stock), Canon 450D (modded) and ASI120MM and 290MM planetary cameras

Gotta be happy with that as a first image. Trap' handled nicely as well, good masking.

Yup , a Pier saves a lot of time and hassle. Sadly, it does not ensure clear skies with its use. This I know all to well !

Very well done...I also think you have more data in there you can bring out! Have you tried DeepSkyStacker to stack your images? Nicely done.

Thanks for the kind comments all. This was a first in several respects - first time imaging thru the scope, first time focusing thru the camera (always fun at night), first time trying to get an accurate polar alignment (the controller said I was 2" off in both RA and dec). I also did not go thru another star alignment after completing the polar so that probably added to the tracking errors.

Downloading it right now I mostly wanted to see if I could do this with the setup I have; now that I know it's possible I will put more effort into it. I've spent a good chunk of today using the sun to find true north so I can lay out some marks in my back yard to help place the tripod more consistently, then tonite clouds permitting I will go out and try and get my mount tuned in a bit better for the polar alignment. Once I do that it shouldn't take so long to get started when I go out at night.

    New attempt, after downloading DSS:

Initial stack/adjustments in DSS, finished in PS. Lots of noise but I figure it helps me learn.

Read Fuzz's sticky on processing M42...you have some good data in there I think and the key is to adjust curves, then levels, then hue anspd saturation, in small increments many times to get the most out of the data. I also think that if you go into levels and hit that left eyedropper then color adjust to the black in the top left you can replace of a lot of that noise with black although it might make it look artificially black or too black... Also taking a couple of dark frames will help DSS kill of that noise for you.
