M42 looks very nice for a first attempt, jc, showing both stars and nebulosity. Great improvement on the globular, but I must say that I also liked the creepy spider-look of the first picture!

Nice, Jennifer! I hope I can do that well on the first few tries...I want to eventually try the same w/the ETX-70 (if it ever gets here...grumble grumble), but it's been mentioned to me to focus mostly on b/w photos because of the achromaticism. We'll see, I suppose.

Got to get a camera first anyway. And a scope. Sigh.

    great start Jennifer.
don't be afraid to crank up the ISO with short exposures
its the best part of the learning curve to see what your equipment is capable of and where your limitations are lurking.
    your hooked now

Thank you all for your kind comments.
I was hooked on cameras when I bought my first SLR in 1974 in South Africa - a Zenith E - made the sound of a gunshot when you fired it!
Then a Pentax me Super in 1980 which lasted me quite a while - 1995 it died from neglect!
I've had some toy cameras in the meantime, but I've also had a very nice Olympus OM1 for many years and a 1/2 frame Leica which was excellent until they started to do the automatic developing and I couldn't get them developed!

It's the telescope which is the new hobby! But even that has been an interest since I was about 12

I was happy with a Polaroid camera in 1974
even up to a year ago I told the local Telescope salesperson that I had no interest in Prime focus and needed help getting the adapters for lens projection.
Fumbled around with my DSI color imagery time to time until One night out of frustration I screwed in the prime focus T adapter to the t ring and targeted Andromeda.
    oops.
Now I live for the next clear sky imaging session.
I think its an incurable obsession
