    Default Early Morning Venus

Well last night was supposed to be a nice cloudless night . They lied , again !!! There was about 40% cloud cover, low in the sky but the main problem was the transparency, it was foeful to say the least. Where have those nice inky black skies gone too ?

I opened up the Obsy roof , no mean feat considering the snow in the garden and atop the roof. Set the Reflector up and had a wee wander about. It soon became apparent that this was not a good night for seeing . Somewhat dismayed , I decided to wait an hour and see if things improved with the sky. I wanted to capture M42. About an hour or so later , I returned to the scope, ice had formed on the outside, seeing had gotten worse so I covered the scope and mount up. I decided to leave the roof open through the night ( I have a really good scope cover ) and have a wee look at Venus in the morning.

Arose at 0800 am and done the usual things you do , shower, breakfast etc etc. Went out to check on Venus , yup , there she was. Brightest thing around , Sun was just rising above horizon. Took the cover off and got ready to have a looksy. Decided to go manual rather than tracking mode , not really worth all that effort . Brought Venus into view , swopped out the EP and replaced it with the camera and a TV Powermate 5x and took a few frames. Nothing fancy you hear , just wanted to record the phase of Venus.

Here is the result. Next time I will be more ready and alert and will use the QHY5v camera for better scale.

    Hi Pete,

Yep same here, the "clear skies" forecast weren't clear at all!
But at least you managed to get out for a wee bit this morning. Well done for capturing Venus

It's looking good for tonight over here though, we'll see!

    All the bestest.

    Carol

Nice image Pete. If I aimed my scope where Venus is in the morning it would be aiming straight in to a neighbors bedroom window..
Not worth it, I think. Will admire other peoples efforts for now..
    Thanks mate.

    nice image pete,
just like to suggest you a software 'EOS Movie Recorder' may be you already know it. I used that to record the venus for few seconds and stacked the frames to get a descent image.

may be you can try it out and get better results than mine.
i taken this image a few weeks back.

    Thanks

Thanks guys , it's not brilliant by an sandards, just a single sub. I take it you mean the Russian firmware hack for the Movie recorder ?

I will get the QHY5v camera on it at some point.
