Default Arzachel at 19.91 days, 30 AUG 10

I have not posted any lunar shots since I finished my C925 collimation campaign...so I guess there is no time like the present. This is a shot of the crater Arzachel; part of a prominent triplet along with Alphonsus and Ptolemaeus. Arzachel is a fascinating feature...well worth a look. This image was acquired with my C925 SCT and a Siebert 2.5x Barlow at f/25.

    Awesome shot.
I've come across it while crater hopping between a moon map and some moon pics I've taken (none of which are half as impressive as yours). Very cool.

    Hi Brian,

That's another excellent image, really like the detail you've caught on the crater wall and floor, makes it an interesting shot. I'm still amazed at how much detail we can see on the moon.

You're building up a quite a store of great images Brian, really hope you're backing up your hard drive!

    All the best

    Default Thanks for dropping by!

Thank you folks for your kind feedback...hopefully I'll be doing more lunar imaging this fall. Summer can be a tough time to get good lunar images due to the moon's elevation...fall and winter are better.

Carol: Don't worry, I am backing up everything. When I started this I really had no idea how much data would build up very quickly. Just this past weekend I invested in 1 2TB external hard drive...that should keep me a bit if I stay in front of the "housecleaning".

    Brian--

Thanks for the hint about summer being a poor time for the moon.

Quite some time ago, we bought a 2 terrabyte external drive. My wife set it up as a Raid 5 drive giving us 1 terrabyte of, hopefully, fairly secure storage. It is available to any machine in our house via the wireless network. Works well. I can also access it from the back yard, where I image.

Now, if I can just GET images to it before I delete them!
