Default How I Spent My Birthday Weekend

Work has been a pressure cooker the last few months so on the spur of the moment I decided to take my birthday weekend off. My awesome wife Kate indulged me in three full nights of observing, imaging, and wrestling with the collimation on my C925 (I think I finally won). Early today (my actual b-day) I was at it hard in the wee hours imaging with my laboriously retuned SCT. The weather was...very good, but not perfect by any stretch. Here is one of the first images I processed after catching a nap this morning. It was a stack of about 2700 (30 fps for 90 seconds) whittled down just a tiny bit by RegiStax 5.1; this version was processed using a Lucy Richardson deconvolution to clean the stack up, wavelet sharpening in RegiStax was only used during the creation of my reference frame. Post processing was done in AstraImage 3.0 Pro, PS CS4, and GIMP2 for trimming and JPEG conversion. I have a ton of data and hope to post a series of these as I get the work done...I hope you like the first sample.

    Brian--

That is a great image! I can just imagine how you felt when you saw the stack!

Happy birthday! (Our wives have different names but it sounds like they are the same person. Stranger things have happened in space and time.)

    Happy Birthday Brian!!

Considering your equipment and the fact you don't travel to get your best pics of the Jupiter and the moon, I also would say you are moving into professional territory!

    Great stuff again,

Thanks Gus. The collimation work is really starting to pay off and I am much higher on the processing learning curve...but there is still so much to learn! Hmmm, I wonder if Damien Peach would like to run some Barbados astrovacation and mentoring trips?

Wow, what a reward for all your collimination efforts Brian! Great image

Your imaging technique is producing excellent results and (if I've got it right) September should be a great month for Jupiter ........ you're gonna love it!

Looking forward to seeing some more of your work.

    All the best

    Carol
