PoleAlignMax, freeware from the FocusMax people. Buggy [I have a posting in this Software area that hopefully gets you through those issues]. It really worked for me, getting the error to less than 1/2 minute in both axis. The improvement to the Mount/Scope has really been pleasant.

    Stellarium, freeware

CCDCalc, Rod Wodaski freeware. You can edit the data file to you Cameras and Scopes, making this a great image planning package. AlanP

BYE and APT are both very good... Little to choose between them, either will be a delight to use.

Sequence Generator Pro. I have used it the last few sessions, and I am blown away by it. I'm still finding new things it can do. I should have my new Feather Touch and Micro Touch wireless autofocuser in a few days, and yes it will run that too. One of the things I love about it is the plate solving and centering ability. See an AP image you like online? Download it and open it in SG. Tell it to solve it, and when it does, tell it to slew there and center on it. It will take a pic before moving, and solve that pic to figure out its present location. When it figures out where it is, it then knows how to go to the target you just gave it. It slews to the target, and centers itself. Don't like the composition? Click the mouse on any location in the target pic that you loaded into SG, and tell it "center here", and it will do so. This feature has been a great help to me this week. I am imaging M13 from my city backyard. So far, I have about 8 hours of data from 3 nights. On nights two and three, I simply loaded one of the images of M13 that had been taken the previous night, and told SG to solve it and center on it. It does so, and then tells you how far off it is in pixels. If it isn't close enough, you tell it to run the centering process again, and within a minute it has recentered, and is almost always within about 25 pixels.

If you need to slew off target during an imaging run to find a star bright enough to use a Bahtinov mask, you can set that star as your "focus position". This will let the scope effortlessly slew from your target for the night to the focusing star and back when necessary for focusing. The program also keeps a history of your images, along with each images HFR and star count. This can be monitored live while imaging to see trends that indicate focus is starting to drift.
This is my first year of AP, so you don't need to be a genius or have a lot of experience to figure out how to use this powerful software. And they have a 45 day free trial with all features working.

Is this product or a newer version still available? I checked Amazon and they do not have it. If not available do you have a current recommendation?
