Just curious if any of you thought it a worthwhile investment or if that money would better spent elsewhere... Maybe similar programs? Looking at TheSkyX Serious for now for the huge database it touts and the ability to be used as a GoTo setup for my current scope (Meade ETX125EC w/Autostar controller) once I get the connecting cables sorted. When I finally pieced together an astro rig, I'd probably make the push to Pro. Anywho, gotta get back to work... Look forward to any input! Thanks!!

Being reasonably New to astrophotography I would suggest nay. It consumes a LOT of laptop battery which is an issue in the field.

I bought the Serious edition and stopped using it after several months. There's is much too learn before you get into software like skyx. When I get a Paramount then I'll consider it.

You are probably going to want to use the ASCOM platform too. Most of the hardware and software vendors support it. It pretty much lets everyone's parts and pieces all play well together.

Thanks for the replies. I've downloaded Stellarium and ordered the cables and adapters I'll need to hopefully make everything talk together. Should be ready to rock n roll this coming weekend. Hope weather cooperates and there aren't too many fields burning...

Does anyone think the SkyX is a better suite of tools? It sounds nice to have all the tools in a suite, working all together, same vendor, and maybe simpler workflow.

    OR

Are the other tools, as individual tools, better than the SB SkyX suite?

I like TheSkyX Pro, specially on Mac OS X.
But it depends on your own workflow and way of imaging. I do almost everything in TheSkyX except for planetary (and even then I still use it for the mount and initial focusing).

Does SkyX automate the imaging like Sequence Generator Pro (SGP)?
My goal is to image all night without me having to do anything. That might include filters, focusing, sequencing, exposure, duration, guiding, etc.
I also want alerts sent to my phone if anything needs my attention.

What can SkyX do that SGP doesn't?

TheSkyX does not have automation. To use it 'like' SGP, you would need another program like CCDCommander, ACP and others. Some of these tools will only work with TSX or Maxim.

There are other planetarium programs that are better suited for general use, such as Stellarium, Starry Night, and others.
Sorry but you are wrong, TheSky software was published twenty years before any Paramount mount was manufactured. TheSky was Software Bisques first product, and its pioneering use was at the Mt Wilson Observatory Telescopes In Education 24 inch telescope in 1993. TheSky software can operate almost any commercial telescope and is used at professional observatories. I have used this software to run AstroPhysics mounts, Meade LX200 series telescopes and also custom professional mounts. THeSky software is likely to be overkill for the smaller ETX series, but it is the software used most by professional telescope operators worldwide. I have been using this software for over 20 years and it has proven itself to be reliable. I have not had any problems with so called "bugs" in the software. Any problems with the software usually arise when the user configures something wrong.

hi, guys! I may be not as professional as others but would offer Sequence Generator Pro for image acquisition and sequence control. Yeah, it's paid but it is worth every penny.
