    Fantastic sketches buddy.

Ever thought about writing a guide for those wanting to do good sketches?

There's a book at Amazon.com called, 'Astronomical Sketching-A Step by Step Introduction, which is what you want to get. Great book, easy to follow instructions.

Yeah saw that. Thinking of getting it.

My visual artistic skills are somewhat... crap though. Will give it a go though I reckon. No harm in trying eh!?

As long as you don't take yourself too seriously, you won't lose at sketching. The purpose isn't to make masterpieces, but to increase your pleasure with astronomy and your powers of observation. I've looked at the moon for years, and taken a number of photos of it. It wasn't until I started sketching that I noticed the various shades in the shadows and the richness of the mountains. Have you ever noticed that even during the brightest full moons there are small, deep, very dark craters right next to Tycho? I never noticed those until I started sketching.

By the way, I'll add that my sketches are also crap.

I agree with Lee and Rob. I got the book Lee is talking about and even though I spent 7 years in art school...I don't take myself too seriously. Always something new to learn. Drawing can be very rewarding and it really does help you to notice much more than a casual look at an object.
