Bright Object in Northern Sky?

Default Bright Object in Northern Sky?

greetings. there is a bright light in the south east of my sky (northern arizona usa). i can't figure out what it is. its about 45 deg. off the horizon, big and slightly orangish. appears quite bright immediately after sunset. i tried my usual sources. not knowing is begining to bug me.

Sounds like you may be seeing Jupiter, even binoculars often reveal its moons, up to 4 visible in even small telescopes..

suppose it's mars, if you're saying bright orangish?

Well, if it's Mars, then it's orbit has taken a sudden and swift turn! Mars, at the time of this original posting, was in the west, not far from the setting sun.

Seeing Jupiter naked eye one night at work was all it took to start up my enthusiasm for astronomy.
