    Default Oc ngc 2232

Finally had a clear night last night without horrendously low windchills although it was still pretty windy.

Fired up my 120mm and wandered around CMa, Pup, and Mon for a couple of hours. My SS display or az encoder flipped directions on me - moving the scope west showed as moving east and vice versa - so I did a reset and realigned. I think maybe I manually slewed the OTA too fast at one point and overwhelmed the decoder, but need to investigate.

Of particular note was my first ever observation of NGC 2232. Not super dense, but quite striking with an Andromeda-like asterism and several moderately bright stars. I definitely want to revisit this one before it gets too far west for me.

Then the usual suspects - M41, M47, M48, M50, Beehive, and wrapped up with M67. 67 is pretty faint in my skies so that's another one for the darker sky list.
Scopes: Orion ST120 refractor, vintage Celestron C-8
Mounts: ES Twilight 1, Celestron EQ fork with pod and wedge

NGC 2232 is a nice and easy forgotten open cluster. I must revisit it before going too low. I have to remember that!

Glad that you could get out there and enjoy an evening with the scope. Nice view of the cluster, too.

    Congrats on the outing!

I logged 2232 quite some time back and have only visited it once. Might need to take another peek if I can remember on the next clear night.
