Nice Bryan, that's pretty slick. Now, can you write something to get me back out there and finish my M70?

Hi Jeff! You only need to do 71 through 110.

You are certainly welcome to do the first 70 if you are feeling froggy.

I will see about changing that column for my use. I will find some time to go back and copy from my spreadsheet to this one. I may ask a guy at work who knows excel about copying from one sheet to the other, at least for the common columns, even if they are in different positions
You can use 2200. I’m a military time guy myself. In order for Excel to calculate time values, the number needs to be in a time format. Excel cannot distinguish between 2200 hrs. and 2200. It can distinguish 22:00 and 2200. BUT, since we are not calculating time values there, 2200 works just fine.

Let me explain why I did this.

So back in February, the requirement for the award to upload one's descriptions was added to the awards program. This necessitates gathering your data, add the pertinent bits to the proper format, copying and pasting to the appropriate wiki page.

This often means typing and re-typing your notes two or three times. That quickly becomes a pain in the keister.

So my thought was, if one begins logging their Messier observations on the spreadsheet from the onset, the spreadsheet will then format the data in the proper manner to easily copy and paste to the appropriate wiki page.

This way, you only have to keying your data one time.

Fact is, participation in the Messier visual awards program has been down this year. Some of that is due to poor observing conditions, some due to lack of interest altogether, and for some folks, the wiki entry part of the qualification turns into a chore, i.e. too much work. My thought here was to alleviate some of the burden on the participants.
exactly how I was going to do it.

I really hate entering data more than once. So yeah, observe, take notes, add to spreadsheet, then report, etc.

This is very cool. In case it has not already been pointed out: it seems that there is no restriction to deleting someone else's entry and writing yours over it. This should be made very clear in the instructions, or, better yet, there should be a limit to this (not sure it's possible), or there should be a possibility to add separate entries without the option of deleting someone else's. I just posted my first (M27), and just went below what had already been entered there, but it was not intuitive.

    You are exactly right!

New entries must be added below existing entries and NOT in place of or overwriting them!

Thanks for the reminder on that!

May be worth appending this as a sticky both with the instructions and in the individual wiki threads?

Looks like it is already present on each individual object page at the bottom, and in the sticky instructions:

    4) paste your wordpad/notepad edited submission edited from template above or simply copy from your thread into the area, without pasting on top or deleting any previous information

I've added a similar blurb to Post #1 of this thread.
