    Default Southern sky award challenge!

    Attention all Astronomy Forum members!!!!

We are pleased to announce a brand new awards certificate.!!!
This is aimed at our Southern hemisphere friends and will be similar to our very successful Messier awards program.
We have selected 110 Southern hemisphere targets to complete the award, it will be staggered the same as the Messiers.
The first leg of 30 then 70 and then the final stretch to 110.

Participants are to download the list(in either XLS or PDF format at the bottom of this thread) and can randomly select the targets as desired to complete the first leg known as the S30 then the S70 and finally the S110.
The ultimate goal will be to view and record your observations of all 110 objects on the list.
Please note that both files will also contain columns for your observations.

    INTRODUCING!!!....

The Astronomy Forum's "Southern Sky Challenge!"

    Benefits of application
    1) A certificate for achievement will be awarded after successfully viewing 30, 70 or 110 of the S objects.
    2) Award medal for eternal display of achievement
    3) Eternal glory in the award page and thread of Southern Sky Challenge honorees

Below are the rules and regulations for obtaining a certificate.

To begin the process a member will have to download the list and then start a new thread in the Astronomy Reports Forum. The prefix will have to be the title of the certificate the member is working towards i.e S30 and the title can be something relevant like - Started My First Southern Marathon!.

As the member completes the successful sighting of the Southern objects he/she will post the specifics of the sighting and may also include a sketch if so desired.
Please note that a sketch and photo award will be added in the coming weeks!

    For example:

NGC 5139 sighted on 07/28/2016 at 9:30 CST.
    Equipment CPC 800
Observations: A large bright ball of stars with a bright central core, stars resolved to the core

    The rules are quite simple;

    1) The Astronomy Forum awards program will work on the honor system. It is up the individual member’s moral character if they want to falsely participate in the program. The program is intended as a way for members to keep track of the observation and be rewarded when certain goals are met.

    2) There are no restrictions as to what type of scope may be used.
Manual, goto, and push to scopes are all accepted!
You may also use binoculars to complete the awards if you so wish.

    3) A member must observe 30 S objects. Any of the S objects on the list will
count. They do not have to be in any specific order.

    4) The member must document the object observed with date and time, equipment used, a brief written/verbal description of each object.

    5) The member must include an excel or similar file (csv - comma or tab separated, txt - comma or tab separated) with the following when you have completed the 30, 70 or 110.
The PDF or Excel file that you downloaded may also be filled out and used.

After the member has completed posting the objects, send a PM to both KINGCLINTON(Clinton) http://www.astronomyforum.net/members/kingclinton.html and BLADEKEEPER(Bryan) http://www.astronomyforum.net/members/bladekeeper.html Please include a link to the thread. A moderator will approve the posts with a follow up post. Once the member has reached thirty objects he/she will be awarded a certificate of completion by email. An icon will be added to your awards list as well indicating you have completed the certificate! That is all there is to it. We hope you all will participate in the program. We look forward to hearing about your progress as you scan the southern skies!!

And here are the Southern awards lists for downloading!

Note that I've updated both the XLS and PDF versions of the Southern Sky Challenge object lists. There was an error in declination for object S1 (NGC 6101). Thanks to Joe (BABOafrica) for bringing this to our attention.

    Thanks all!
