Default Messier 30 Certificate Report - Short but Good Session!

I never tire from seeing these wonderful fuzzy patches of light Before some clouds moved in I was able to squeeze in about an hour of observing time. After visiting my favorite new friends M104, M81 and M82 I found M58, M59 and M60 in Virgo and they did not disappoint. There are so many galaxies in this area that it is very hard to identify what you found, but I am pretty sure I got those. The BIG challenge is that the Virgo area requires my scope to aim a high Azimuth. This is a problem in my homemade scope so I have some serious design adjustments to do.

Tomorrow looks like it is going to be a really good night, cloud free and good conditions after the cold front went through on Wed and I do not have to work on Saturday. This may be my first extended viewing session! Even though it was short, I saw lots of galaxies and also squeezed in the double star M40, which makes 21 Messier Objects so far. Again, I want to thank everyone on here that encouraged me to shoot for the Messier 30 when I started - it has been a great experience and I have learned a lot about navigating the sky. I think all beginners should start off this way as it forces you to keep looking for those things you want to see. 9 More To Go!!

Way to go hockeydad! Congrats on bagging 4 more Messier objects! That is awesome!

Yeah, it's not hard to get lost in Virgo with all the fuzz floating about, but once you really dive in there and work slowly and methodically, it is a lot of fun indeed. I've only made minor excursions in there this season so far. Between Virgo and Coma Berenices, I've logged 114 galaxies in there, and I'm just getting started. Maybe tomorrow I can dive in there for a while.

Anyway, I do hope your sky is excellent tomorrow night. I'll be rooting for you to score your remaining 9 for the M30, and more beyond that too. Good luck and thanks for the report update!

Well done on those and dipping your toes into the Virgo cluster area! It's quite a tour around once you get in there. Good luck on completing soon your M30!

    Nice report, HD.

When we go to a dark desert site, I can keep my wife busy all night. I just show her where the Virgo cluster is and turn her loose.

Well, you're almost there. Just nine more to go to the M30.

Shouldn't take long to catch the rest of them, and I do agree that the Messier programs on the Forum are a great way to organize one's observing activities HD.
