    Default Asteroid mania

Tonight I tracked down three new asteroids, sketched initial positions. They are addicting little buggers...

337 Devosa in Gemini, mag 11.5.
128 Nemesis in Cancer, mag 11.6.
69 Hesperia in Canis Minor, mag 10.7

Somewhat torturous conditions, high clouds drifting in and out. Hesperia, though the brighest, was the most difficult because the muck was starting to take over.

Tomorrow night, SpacedoutBob and I are planning a trip to Del Valle for the semi-dark skies. I have a list of Herschel 400 objects ready to go

Cool Ray! Asteroid mania indeed! Looking forward to the new sketches!

Just a warning: In a dark site on the H400, beware Leo and Ursa Major. I've just spent 5 hours bouncing from galaxy to galaxy in both.

Best of luck for tomorrow night (tonight?). Looking forward to reading about that.

    Clear skies to you Ray!

Hi Ray, I also like looking for asteroids. I have snaffled about 70, including a couple of NEOs.

Thanks for the warning My list is mostly in Lynx, Gemini and the Camelo... objects I would have no chance of catching from my roof. But I'll probably check out some old friends as well.

Ray has 'roids! But seriously, good job on the asteroids Ray. And good luck for the dark site trip. If the conditions cooperate, I am quite sure you will pick off most if not all your target list. As we all know, nothing beats clear dark skies.

BTW, are you working on the AL Asteroid Award?

Kudos to you on our asteroid proficiency Ray. I checked the skies last night at about 10:30 and there were high clouds everywhere - pretty frustrating. I should have stayed up til 4am and then headed out, because I think the skies had cleared by then. Right now its quite clear, so I hope it holds for this evening. I have an extensive list of objects to observe here from the backyard. Good luck on the trip to Del Valle!

    No!

It is easy to bag them with my software, which tells me all the brighter asteroids that are near opposition and shows me what they look like, then sends the scope straight to them. If they are bright enough then it is child's play, except perhaps when there are lots of similar stars in the same area.
