Wow...was that the biggest flop last night or what? I hate to be hard on the scientists, but I'm not sure they could have more incorrect.

After a long hard day at work I loaded up the car with food, drinks, lawn chairs, blankets, etc last night in preparation for a possible all nighter, and we drove out of town to witness two hours of absolutely nothing. I saw one meteor (and I was the only one who saw it) and it was way in the opposite direction to the south. As mentioned by others, I too see more meteors on a regular night from my backyard in the city when I'm not even looking for them. Ya, I'm a little tired and cranky today...but feel a little better getting this off my chest.

I stayed out till 4 doing 18mm widefield shots.. so roughly 6hrs out
I didn't see a single one with the naked eye!
I caught a super faint one in one image.
I see a dozen on a "normal" night.
The overhyping of meteor showers is doing a disservice. I wonder how many people went out last night and today are thinking science is suspect.
I heard CNN as claiming 1000 meteors per hour..

    What a disappointment.
Now there better be a good " real" meteor shower soon in the coming months.

Excellent point. I was going to mention the media overhype thing, but didn't want my post to turn into a rant. You put into words what I was thinking, but I couldn't come up with the right words. LOL
