Smile My First NLC sighting :)

    Hi all,

I'm happy to report my first sighting of Noctilucent Cloud. I've been trying to catch a glimpse of these for a wee while, since last year in fact, but last night I finally spotted these beauties. Although it wasn't the best display ever seen I was well chuffed with my very first sighting and just thought I'd share

Missed these ( almost ;-) ). Nice captures there Carol. Def NLC's as well. Its weird I was always under the impression they were over/gone by end of May to mid June. To do with the Dec of the Sun after setting . I need to look into that again , I obviously missed something cos they are the realk deal and its July.

Congrats on seeing them and getting an image. Thats a special moment there for you .

    Nice shots Carol.
I saw my first ones July 1st while I was in Montana for my mom's birthday.
I was heading north to Missoula to pick up my wife at the airport at about 11:30pm when I spotted them. I almost pulled over to get some pictures but I didn't think my wife would be happy if I was late picking her up. I had been teasing her the week before that Friday would be the best night for viewing and I would be busy setting up the telescope and forget to pick her up.

    Thanks Pete,

Yep, I was excited to finally catch them

I was sent some photos of an amazing display over Edinburgh about 2:30am Sunday morning...but I missed them! Tbh I did get a text about 1am telling me NLCs were visible but I was far too tired to drag myself out of bed..... some astronomer I am eh? lol
Anyway Pete, from what I understand, NLCs can be visible until early/mid August. Check out Tom McEwan's website for recent sightings.... if this cloud lifts there's a good chance we'll see some more before the season ends.
