    Default Hyperion EP

The new Hyperion Zoom came in on Friday. The laser collimator arrived with it, and I was able to get my mirrors nice and aligned. Took the scope out past night (not very good seeing) and just kind of poked around with the new EP.

Wasn't able to get any clear focus on Jupiter. But, it was low in the sky and there were some trees between us. Was trying to sneak a peek between branches. The Orion nebula looked pretty much the same as it always does.

I've been on shift since Thursday, so i can't really get to a good dark area. The lights from the motel across the street and the neighbor turning on thier 100W porch lights don't help things either.

Found out today that my moon filter fits on the 1.25" part of the EP, so I'm hoping for a good view tomorrow maybe.

I was a bit surprised how out of alignment my mirrors were. Especially after the guy that sold me the scope said that I shouldn't have to worry about collimation for quite some time.

I like the Hypreion quite a bit though. It's nice to not have to change EP's when I want a closer view. And, it's a lot easier to compare views at different magnifications. Hopefully, a Barlow will soon follow.

Congrats on the Hyperion Zoom, I have had mine out twice so far and as you said it is pretty handy. Keep posting on what you think of it.

Congrats on the new astro gear! As you log more time and experience at the eyepiece it will become more apparent how a good one differs from the more mediocre ones as the eye becomes more trained and discerning to appreciated and capture the nuanced details that appear more apparent in time when viewing celestial objects repeatedly.

    Best,

    Hernando
