Default Huge asteroid or meteor en of July 2009

    Hello everyone!

This is my first message in this forum. I hope the message is in the right section of the forum.

Last year, during a trip in the Tambopata rainforest, south of Peru, during a night excursion by boat, several of the person on the boat, including me, we saw a huge meteor/asteroid, like a ball of fire, crossing the sky, not so far away from the horizon. It was much much bigger and a little bit slower that a normal comet. I don't remember if it was the night of July 27 or 28th.

It was one of the most spectacular view I had experience in my life (and I've seen many comets!).

I am just wondering now, if that comet or asteroid was recorded by the astronomy community or at least if there is more information about it.

Thanks in advance for any help!

    Joemac

Did it sort of look like this one that came down in Western Canada in Nov of 2008?

    Thanks for your quick reply.

The speed was really similar but it was a more reddish color and there was no big flash light at the end.
