This 30 year old mounting is rock solid, stable and allows snaps of astro subjects with a digital camera held up the eyepiece. This older image is of the mounting before I modified it with with stainless steel shafts and fixings. The old weight lifting counterweights have also been changed to uniform cylinders of turned steel. A turnbuckle allows fine adjustment of polar altitude.

Hi

I'm presently using my CR150 6" F:8 refractor. An easy load for such a competent mounting. It was carrying a massive 15" reflector before I bought the mounting. The MkIV has 6" bronze wormwheels and variable speed, motor drives to both axes. The big black bx is the PS and the paddle can be seen hanging from the other side of my massive pier. I welded the pier together myself from the heaviest steel sections I could find. It is far too heavy to lift. My Fullerscopes blog shows more details:

Thanks. I like it too. The paint is dark blue Hammerite hammer finish on their special primer for good adhesion on alloy castings. The original finish would have been black wrinkle paint probably stoved on for a good wrinkly surface. I only discovered later that wrinkle paint was available in aerosol cans. These days a heat gun can warm a thick coat of the wrinkle paint for a nice wrinkly effect. I have been told that heat is essential to get a really good wrinkle effect straight after the item is sprayed.
