Yep, the sketch was done at my favourite dark site, the area has what is generally regarded as the darkest skies in England.
From home, I can just about see m65 and m66 galaxies with a 6" reflector. In order to see the third galaxy of the 'triplet' I need to use my 10" dob.
This sketch was done with only a 4" refractor, and really does show just how much of a difference a proper dark sky can make.
I did 3 sketches that night, this one, m101, and m51
They were my first attempts at sketching deep sky objects, and I was really pleased a how well they came out.
Oh, and that night was also very cold - I had to pack up at about 1am because everything was icing up

54.6°N - 1.6°W
I have loved the stars too fondly - to be fearful of the night
