NGC 7380 is an open cluster discovered by Caroline Herschel in 1787. William Herschel included his sister's discovery in his catalog, and labelled it H VIII.77. It is also known as 142 in the 1959 Sharpless catalog (Sh2-142). Known as the Wizard Nebula, this object is a reasonably large nebula located in Cepheus.

This may be a dumb question but I will ask it any way. When you look through the eyepeice is the colors blue and orange visual to the viewer?

Stunning picture! I gave it a 9 instead of a 10 because this is the first shot of this nebula I've seen, so, I've nothing to compare it to. With comparisons it would probably rate a 10 though. Great job!

What a class picture. It captures everything you could want from a nebula. Great job!

@shawnd
I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure you only get the colours from using filters to highlight the appropriate wavelengths of light. You also need loads of light gathering to produce an image of this clarity, which comes from multiple time exposures.
If I've got my maths right the combined exposure time for this shot is 23.5 hours!

This incredibly beautiful. If I had one image like this in my life, that's all I would need. Thanks for posting, it's stunning!

It's photos like this that inspire new astrophotographers like me to stand outside for hours in the cold winter weather. All for the hopes of collecting those ancient photons on my camera's unworthy sensor and glimpsing the beauty that is out there.

I'm glad to hear it's inspiring. Only 1.5 years ago I started with this hobby and I was inspired to see these images of other photographers too... So hope to see your images soon too!

I'd be really interested to hear more about your process; How you take the pictures, which filters you use and why, what steps you take in processing them. Any advice you could give would be helpful!
