Elon Musk has begun launching his internet satellites. The first group of 60 was recently sent up in space and the 500 pound satellites are already ruining photos as they streak through telescope fields of view. He has said he intends to launch 12,000 of these puppies. And now Amazon is chiming in that they too will begin launching satellites.

While that bodes great for telecommunication usage it has the potential to destroy photographing the universe. I've also read that some companies are considering giant illuminated advertisements in earth orbit. If light pollution doesn't kill seeing the stars, soon we'll have our own, most boring, man-made stars to look at, at night. "Oh, look, honey, I have a great picture of the Fizzy Cola advertisement."

Apparently there is little that can be done to stop this as there are no international laws regarding use of space except for no weapons allowed (like, sure ).
