Why the Neat commet did not get that much attention as it flew by the sun and why are there there zero news articles? That's a very easy question to answer .... because there is nothing particularly significant or newsworthy about the comet.

It's been doing that as part of it's fusion process for the last 4-5 billion years. Nothing noteworthy about that I'm afraid. [Registered users can see links. ]. The moon is chock full of the stuff since it doesn't have a protective magnetosphere and it's been absorbing it from the sun for a few billion years. It would actually be a terrific clean energy source if we could figure out how to recover it in a cost effective manner. Lot of controversy over whether we should though, or should we leave the moon pristine.

Actually that's not at all acurate. In fact the SOHO satellite caught an[Registered users can see links. ]. I would definitely classify a coronal mass ejection possibly striking it as activity from the sun as it passed.

I definetely never hear much news about space and other astronomical events. I can only recall a few in my lifetime. All I hear about lately is the fact that nasa is getting sliced and diced financially. I am very sad to see this. Think of all the things we waste so much more money on. nasa's budget is much smaller than most all other governmental programs.

NASA is so horribly over budgeted it is unbelievable. The Constellation program was a huge waste of money. Instead of using designs from 40+ years ago, NASA should be looking into more efficient forms of propulsion.

Harvesting anything off of the moon is also a huge money pit. The amount of money that would be saved by using the moons resources instead of the earths is tiny compared to the operating cost of actually getting the material to and from the moon.
