The weakest link in the optical chain is the large nut located directly behind the eyepiece/ camera. - Gabrielle
Ya gotta keep this Apo/Achro thing in some balance of perspective. Apos are awesome, but long focus Achros aren't that far behind them - Siriusandthepup (CN)
Refractors kick arse precisely because they don't hide behind excuses. That is, they have no obstructions to hide behind. - Jon Isaacs (CN)

Thank you so much for your offer Gabby! I’m actually looking at what they list as their Skywatcher “generic” 1.75” or 2” steel tripod that they say are compatible with the eq3,eq4, cg5 without any modifications, sold as a standalone tripod to go with a head unit.

If you would be able to give me the approximate diameter of the mounting hole in the center I could see how much I’d be looking to have to shim my eq1 bolt to secure it to the bigger tripod. Thank you for the help, much appreciated.

I can take a couple of pictures and measurements after work.
My tripod is the CG-5 2" stainless steel version so the adapter plate is not going to be the same size as a EQ-3, EQ-3/2, or CG-4 as these are one size smaller.

The Skywatcher EQ-5 and Celestron CG-5 are the same tripod, both are made by the same manufacturer.

Gabby I ended up finding a bit of a deal on a Skywatcher AZ gti mount, so no need to spend any of your time taking measurements. Thank you very much!

That will do well with the 90mm Mak.
It will be like having a new telescope.
