    Default Does this sound familiar?

Look outside and see it’s lovely and clear

    Setup your rig

Spend 5 or so mins getting a good polar alignment

Start all the apps on your pc

Get PHD2 going and start calibration...only to hear it chiming at you...

Look outside and it’s lovely and cloudy

Pack everything away in disgust go inside and annoy yr wife/husband/other for the rest of the night!

Well, that’s been my story for near on 6 weeks now! Roll on January, we tend to get lower temps which always bring on better skies.

Heck - this has been going for months now. Mercury's years are more numerous than the entries in my log book since last winter. When will the rain and clouds stop? I had 2 overnight camps for Girl Scouts this week. Before I left on Wednesday - that day/night was supposed to crystal clear and Thursday night was supposed to be ok (like 25% clouds). Both nights we were socked in... well I got about an hour of sudden partial clearing on Wednesday night. But I was expecting (as were the girls) to be up late. <sigh>

When will the weather gods relent. Or are we doomed because people keep buying equipment with which view and photograph their (the weather gods) sisters and brothers????

I primarily use Clear Outside (which is probably about 95% accurate) and my weather might as well be at the default location in Exeter, Devon, UK. Sometimes I forget to use my location and the weather prediction is eerily accurate!

Which is one reason why I prefer grab-n-go (at least for now). It still takes a few minutes to get my privacy / light screens and such set up though.

Clear Outside was not very reliable for my location in November and earlier this month, so I've just been using Weather Underground and sticking my head out the door. Dunno, maybe I should go back to an old-fashioned barometer or one of those sparkle ball thingies from sailing days.

Yes Sir!! '18 has been a horrible year weather wise. I've been out less this year than any time prior. Here's hoping for a new and improved 2019 and tons of clear skies.

Did you mean Guerrilla Astronomy (like hit and run) or Gorilla Astronomy where you need gorilla strength arms to hold the binoculars for long periods of time?
