    Default Disassemble/Reassemble a Celestron C8 Sct

How difficult is it to disassemble/reassemble a Celestron C8 Sct, I accidently put a very tiny dent in my OTA, does not effect the optics but I do not like how it looks. Was thinking I'd take it apart and try to tap the dent out, maybe paint it while it was apart. Can't find anything online in the way of a tutorial. Maybe paint it while it was apart.

    Thanks

    Normy:

I inherited a 8" Meade SCT which had been stored and not used for some 8-10 years. Corrector plate was filthy and I needed to get in and check everything including focusing travel. If I use the search terms "disassembly of SCT" I came across three Youtube vids. One is from the guy nicknamed the "dab-dab" man where he takes the corrector off, cleans it and also cleans the primary. They should crop right up. (I'm seemingly too new to post links to vids.)

Google search will also find some forum discussions on cleaning C8s. I have a vintage C8 in storage that has some schmutz on the inside of the corrector. I keep thinking I should clean it, collimate it, and fire it back up but haven't had the time or inclination to do so.

The hardest part appears to be putting the corrector back on as it was originally assembled. Registration marks are mandatory.

Each and every corrector plate on a Celestron SCT is individually oriented for it's best figure position on that OTA. So if you take apart this OTA make certain you put registration marks on if they don't exist so that you can put the corrector plate and the spacers back in exactly the same spots from where you got them.

    Cheers,

Sand the dent, put some Bondo on it and repaint the outside. No disassembly required, just lots of masking.
