Default Meade MA 12mm Illuminated Reticle Astrometric Eyepiece

Hi, Does anyone use a Meade MA 12mm Illuminated Reticle Astrometric Eyepiece for centering for a 2 star alignment, or is this overkill? Thanks.

There work great for alignment but if you are not going to be using it for measurements then a simple crosshair will work just as well.

The weakest link in the optical chain is the large nut located directly behind the eyepiece/ camera. - Gabrielle

thing in some balance of perspective. Apos are awesome, but long focus Achros aren't that far behind them - Siriusandthepup (CN)

Refractors kick arse precisely because they don't hide behind excuses. That is, they have no obstructions to hide behind. - Jon Isaacs (CN)

I use one for alignment. I'm still learning the procedures for measurements and the such. One note however, the on/off switch is notorious for being flakey. Mine broke and I replaced it with the illuminator from my Orion crosshair EP instead of returning it. Agena sells an illuminator at a good price if you happen to need a replacement.

Don't forget to turn the darn thing off though.

I end up buying the batteries in bulk cause I am always forgetting and putting it back in the case still on
