Default Help me, pls, with new suggestions!

Guys, I am getting desperate here. The remaining Messiers are just about all out of my reach, and also I viewed most of the NGC open clusters spanning the Milky Way from South to the West. I could not buy an 8 dob either...

So, could you pls suggest to me some DS objects that are attainable in a 5inch dob, in the evening skies? Like the Eskimo Nebula I watched a week ago. Aything pls, I have some 3 days of mostly clear skies this week and it's such a shame that nothing remained for me that I know of! No Messiers, other DSOs, for a 5 incher in mild light pollution.

Thank you in advance! (pls, I'm desperate!! )

I'd suggest the RASC Finest NGC list as it contains some really nice objects (yet to go through it myself entirely...).

The RASC's Finest N.G.C. Objects List

Also, of course there's the Herschel 400 list... not much use when the Moon is out though as most objects get obliterated. Still should be do-able for quite a few objects with the 5"

Hey, this is great! Do you think those Ursa Major galaxies for example will be doable for me? Do you have any suggestions pls?

I think some of them will be visible given a dark night! Some may be pushing it but it's worth trying. Have a look at the Summer list as well for the times you're observing.

Also, I believe Bryan produced a Planetary nebula list a while ago... While the Moon is out these are more worth trying for especially once you get that OIII filter!

Also, don't forget the Caldwell catalogue!

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caldwell_catalogue

Up to about 76 of the 108 will be available for Northern skies. Obviously, you'll get a bit of cross-over from Herschel 400 list to the RASC and the Caldwell lists... The Caldwell catalogue (like the RASC list) does not contain any Messier objects though.

Check this site out Milan, you can use the list generator and set your limiting magnitude then search by constellation It will give you a list of objects by the parameters you set.

Thanks, guys, I'm all over it Until I get my 8 incher. Turns out I CAN buy it once we move.

I know I asked for measurements already, and I know the bottom measurement, could one of you who have an 8 dob measure its height, but WITH finderscope and all? Cuz the way I see it the finderscope adds a bit to the height.

I'm asking cuz next week we have to order the furniture and my future scope has to fit into the wardrobe. So, height with finderscope and all pls? Also, does the finderscope's arm reach outside the base circle? Cuz the base is a 51 cm diagonal disc. So we're preparing a 55 cm width and depth closet space. Will the finderscope arm go beyond that?

Hey, Milan! My XT8i is 51" tall from floor to the top of the OTA all assembled. My finder scope goes outside of the base footprint by about an inch or so. If that's too much, it only takes about 2 seconds to remove/attach the finder.

The height is the same with or without my 9x50 RACI since it does not protrude above the end of the OTA (the top of the finder sits at about 1.5" below the end of the OTA).

Not sure of any differences with the Z8 but, hope it helps!

Awesome! Well, Milan, I hope this sticks this time. What a roller coaster. If this goes the other way all of a sudden, I'm going to need a Valium.

Congrats on being "back on" again for the 8". Excellent news. Hopefully someone can chime in with some dimensions for you.

I don't think the finder will extend beyond the base dimensions. It does not on my 12", but the 8" has a smaller base.

Now, if I can talk the wind into dying down, I might be able to catch an asteroid or two this evening, maybe some nice doubles and a handful of carbons.
