    Default New goodies arrived :)

Yesterday I received my new goodies:

    Laser collimator with adjustable brightness
    Rigel Quickfinder
Metal bracket for attaching the bino to my tripod

I already used the laser to try to improve collimation on My Skyscanner:
Secondary was slightly off but now nicely aimed onto the center doughnut of the primary.
The primary does not have adjustment screws but by repositioning and by "working" the three holding screws a bit I managed to improve its alignment.

Tonight I attached the Rigel to the 10" and this prooved to be quite the challenge:
The double sided tape that comes witht he Rigel is either the best ort the worst double sided tape I have ever seen
It was virtually impossible to remove the "release" tapes without tearing the actual adhesive tape.
I finally manage to have something decent and proceed to attach it to the dob, pressing it nice and tight.
Then I take a step back to admire my work and see that I put it on the wrong way!

I did a good job in pressing it tight: upon removal I split the tape in half leaving me with a tube and rigel full of glue.
Which turned to be a royal pain in the **tt to properly remove.

Then I took out the good old carpet tape and this was much easier to work with.
So now I'm all set and find that the sky is completely fogged out...

Finally: a big thumbs up for teleskop-express.de
I placed the onine order Tuesday just before noon and just 13 hours later the package was delivered

That's OK, I can laugh about it now

I don't really know how I managed to stick it on the wrong way though.
I meticulously planned its postion, doing "dry-runs" in different locations before starting to work on the tape.
Propbably it was me being fed up with the crappy tape that I rushed the actual placement of the Rigel...

    BUT
    the fog is gone!!!

Still a bit haze but good enough to align the circles.
Jupiter made an easy target for alignment, just a few quick twists at the adjustment knobs and it was set.
Even with the scope only cooled down for about 10 minutes (it is around -2°C now) a 200x view of Jupiter was quite good.

Added another PN to my (small) collection:
Jupiter currently is a good pointer for NGC 2392 aka the Clown Face Nebula.
At 48x I just scanned a bit down, centered on a vertical "double" where I thought the top member was less sharp.
At 120x I was convinced that I had it because it had a soft glow.
At 200x I could even see the central star with averted vision.

Not bad for a 15 minute session.
I will have to check it out again with a cool mirror and better sky

Sound like you're having an early Christmas. Good for you.

Next time you have to remove something stuck on with double-back tape, consider "cutting" through it with dental floss. Works like a champ.

Hello Skyscanner. Congratulations on the new gear arriving at your house. The tape part gave me a bit of a laugh too. I am glad that you got such good delivery service from your vendor, got your tape mounting straightened out, and ended up with a great viewing session. Thanks for your fun read report, and I hope that you enjoy many more clear skies for your observing sessions.
