    Default Sir Patrick Moore

I have just heard on television that the much loved British amateur astronomer and television presenter of the program "The sky at night" has died today age 89.
Sir Patrick holds the record for being the longest running British television presenter in history.
He amoung other things gave us the Caldwell list.

I was born just a few days after Patrick Moore presented the first episode of the Sky at Night back in 1957. It was thanks to his coverage of the Apollo missons that I first took up astronomy. I've watched his programme all of these years and star gazing has been a lifelong fascination of mine.

What an educator and entertainer, he will be missed.

he's from an age when what you knew was more important than how you looked. Lets hope his replacement on the Sky at Night is an expert and not a 'presenter'.

Hello Stephenbells. How right you are. His books, TV series, and the Caldwell list have done more than any single person to inspire many to get interested in astronomy. He will be very greatly missed by countless amateur and no too few professional astronomers around the world. RIP Sir Patrick Moore.
