Question Orion Star Shoot Deep Space Video Camera?

Does anyone have any experience using the orion star shoot deep space video camera? As a teacher it appeals to me that I would be able to display what my Nexstar 8SE is looking at onto a TV. I would like to start an astronomy club for the fourth grade students, but only have 2 telescopes. I was thinking that this would keep a group of students engaged instead of waiting in line to look through the telescope. How well does it work?

Orion is on their second version of that camera, fyi. Im a video astronomy guy, my Mallincam Hyper Plus is limited to 56 second integrations, I cant imagine being limited to 4 seconds. They say brighter DSO's, planets and solar..... definitely very bright DSO's or be prepared to be heavy-handed with post processing.

As I said, my hyper plus is a max 56 second cam, and I definitely want longer times.....

Dont be afraid to look at used equipment, ill make a suggestion, a Samsung SCB200, or its big brother, the 4000. $200 and $400-ish, very sensitive security cams, that will need a teenie mod to do astro video.

I do outreach work with local schools, scout troops, senior events, etc., its amazing to watch the faces of the crowd when the see M51 "live"..... while quantity isnt the goal, its nice to slew and view.....explaining along the way.

Look at the Samsungs, look on astromart and the classifieds here for used Mallincam Jr.s, Samsungs, etc...

Hi Andy, just came across this old post of yours. I recently acquired a Celestron 6SE and am interested in adding a camera. When you posted you mentioned the Samsung SCB2000 or 4000 as possible options. These are now discontinued models, but the SCB5000 is available, and fairly inexpensive. Would you still consider this a good option to consider? If so, what is the "teenie mod" that you mentioned would be needed?

    Look forward to your feedback,
    Peter
