Can anyone show me the basic setup of a T-mount? It obviously fits the Nikon camera and then slides into the lens holder on the telescope. But does the lens go inside the mount tube or what. It won't focus. Nikon D200 Meade 4.5" reflector 1.25" lens holder adapter for smaller lenses that came with the telescope Thanks for any pointers! |

The basic T-mount is used without an eyepiece. It is not uncommon for cameras to not focus in that configuration. Due to the depth of the camera, the focuser needs to be rolled in a long way, and many focusers don't have enough travel to do it. Try using a barlow between the focuser and the T-mount and see if that helps.

Most Newtonians like the one you have do not have sufficient back focus to focus a DSLR. Work arounds .... use a barlow like Keith said or a 32mm eyepiece. To use an eyepiece you will need to get a t ring adapter that is made to house an eyepiece between the scope and the camera. BTW, what kind of mount are you using with your telescope?

I don't know. It will house a 1.25" eyepiece. I have a 20mm amd a 26mm Plossl lens. The camera mount is a Nikon. It fits my D200. I got this to work one time. Since you and KeithBC mentioned a barlow lens, I bet thats how I did it. That was before I got the 1.25" lenses. The smaller lenses came with the telescope which included a barlow lense. I guess I need a barlow for the 1.25" lenses. I know that getting one doesn't guarantee it will work but maybe they're not too expensive. Thanks! |

When you say mount do you mean equatorial mount? That's the telescope mount.
