    Default Public Star Party Planning

hey all, I was wondering if there is anyone here who has ever planned a star party, or ran a astro club in their area?

I'm thinking of planning a public star party as a fundraiser for our high school and i could really use some questions answered, like are there any legal concerns that must be addressed? what things would be fun to have for the publics entertainment? and any other tips?

so far i'm thinking if i can get about 10 people with scopes to come, that'd be a great start (that's quite a few for our small town with no astro club), maybe start a good ways before dusk with a BBQ and silent auction (people here love silent auctions for some reason) and some live music (i have a band that would love to play), then just after dusk while people are finishing setting up the scopes have a talk about some constellations and their stories with the public using a laser pointer and then let people go around and look in scopes, and make requests if there is anything they want to see.

thats all ive got so far, and i'd love to hear some feedback from the community here.

I haven't planned such an event, and have only ever been to one star party, so I don't have any suggestions to offer. However, I just wanted to wish you luck with the project.
