Hi, there. I'm recently newly registered. I'll be dropping by from time to time. I am from southern Canada, and my equipment is a Meade 4.5" Newt, with a good selection of eps and filters. I am interested primarily in visual astronomy (i.e. not in astrophotography.) I am a big fan of the Moon, as the skies around me are pretty opaque. I would upgrade the scope, but I have four expensive children, so it's out of the question at present.

Guess this is it .... newbie in NE Ohio here. Back in April, after a year or two of model rocketry, I picked up T. ****inson's Nightwatch, settled back in a recliner chair with my cheap 7x35 binocs, and got hooked on the stars. On a limited budget, I visit the library a lot. Obsessively teaching myself every constellation I can see (logged total since April = 22 constellations with 190 stars I can spot, name and/or at least give Bayer designation to). Visiting some local clubs, looking through lots of dobs. I have slowly and economically upgraded my own observing equipment to a good pair of Nikkon 10x50's with a sturdy tripod. I could not resist purchasing a toy telescope ... just ordered Celestron AstroMaster 114 Eq, although it hasn't arrived yet. I've read everything there is to read about the perils of toy scopes. The price was just too good ($150) .... allowing me to continue saving for the "real" scope that will be chosen next year. But for now, I'm as excited as a little kid just off Santa's lap! Glad to be here, and looking forward to learning and sharing... ![]()

I'm new here as well. I've been looking at the sky for years, and always meant to buy a telescope but kept putting it off. Last year a guy started at my place of employment and told about his Dobsonian and has given me many thoughts and ideas. I will soon be getting a 10" Dob by Orion but for now I am making due with a pair of 10x42 Galileo binocs.

Thanks for the welcome .... I plan to "touch base" with just about everything the hobby has to offer (short of astrophotography) before deciding on a focus. I've been watching Jupiter and it's moons lately... very eager to see that and our own Moon up close with my reflector. But I've already set up a list of easy Messiers and binaries to be split, as well. Telescopes.com shipped today.. ![]()
