Default My first years in Astro Photography

Hi all, first image post on here. I have been doing AP for a year now and have completely fallen in love with it. Do not get too much time to image as young family and weather in the UK!

I already owned a Canon 7D and Canon 400mm L lens and after reading up for months bought a SkyWatcher NEQ6 mount.

My first go with it was on a road trip down to Morocco (Deep End!) and luckily managed to get everything up and running on the second night and get a few shots on the default go to targets (Orion and Andromeda). Was blown away when Andromeda appeared on my screen with a 20 second sub Emotional to say the least.

Have now got guiding working fairly well and also using Plate Solving, which is awesome for getting onto targets really quickly.

Anyway, here are a few shots from this year. Still learning processing and will be soon looking at purchasing a dedicated camera (Probably ASI183MM) so I can do NB imaging from my light polluted garden.

    First attempt on M42

    First attempt on Andromeda

Recent version of M42 (Went a bit mad on the processing, need to re-do (A little less pink I think )

    Re-process of the above data

Wide Field Orion (Was really happy to get a bit of Barnard's Loop coming through on this)

Pleiades. Really wanted to get more data on this but the moon was very close.

    Obligatory Moon Shot!

Thanks for looking, hope you like. Comments and critique very much welcomed

    Tommy.

Very nice images Tommy. Thanks for sharing them with us.

Yes, imaging deep space targets is super rewarding.

I’m just starting like you and it is hard to beat the satisfaction of capturing a target that you can barely see with an eyepiece.

Just got a guide scope/camera, but the weather has been so poor the past month, I really haven’t had a chance to use it.

Best of success with imaging and please share your experiences with us!

    Thanks,
    Jim

I like your work, and wonder about your setup. Did you take your Neq6 mount to Morocco and image this?
I am in the Uk too, and started with a Canon 7D as it was my only dSLR from my daytime equip, ent. I found the light pollution, and relatively low H-alpha sensitivity a problem. But your images show reasonable H-alpha sensitivity. Was the skies in Morocco dark, and how did you mount the Canon on the Neq6 because I have not found a stable mount for the dSLR+ heavy lenses.
You got the Witches nebula to the west of Rigel!! and the Barnard 33 !!

Hi there, thanks. I love the Witch Head and I was so happy to get it in the wide field shot. The later shots were taken in Morocco with the NEQ6 but with the moon nearly full...shame as would have been epic with no moon. Was near Bortle 1 sky! Was surprised to get the Ha at all in Barnards Loop also. Upgrading to mono soon as really want to get some of that Ha in new shots. I use a Side by Side bar for the NEQ6. I then screw the lens mount onto another Losmandy bar and that onto one side of the side by side bar. I then put 2 small losmandy plates together to fit two rings for the guide scope and put that on the opposite side. Balanaces nicely, maybe a little heavy but can get 3 min unguided and fairly good stars. In the UK I shoot on the IOW so fairly dark sky. Really does help.
