    Default My ZWO ASI120MC came down with Measles - Happy ending.

    First the diagnosis. I was out a few days ago and took this avi. When I got around to stacking it this is what I saw (quick screen shot of the avi)

    If you look closely you'll see a BUNCH of cold pixels. And I really liked the shot. I know there is healing routines in stuff like PS and the like but I haven't aquired the skill as yet.

    Highpoint Scientific to the rescue. I called and got Isaac (great guy). He asked for a snippet of the avi and then later a snapshot (above). He immediately emailed back with "Oh, WOW"... Long and short he sent the snapshot to China and Now I'm waiting for an RMA number to return the camera for a full replacement.

    ~~~
    Now I need to find a way to heal the avi if possible. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Before anyone asks I did a stack on a wider shot from the same night. It doesn't show the cold pixels as bad but there are visible artifacts.
    Nice image, shame you have to wait for new camera, but glad they took care of issue for you!.
    Read this link scroll down to part about cleaning up image for few tips with PS. https://starizona.com/acb/ccd/softwa..._ngc253pp.aspx
    You can search at you tube for examples of using each of tools mentioned in link I sent for your version of PS. It is fairly easy to do. There are various techniques, but this is easiest to learn and play with.
    I had one of those cameras for almost a year. That never happened to any of my files. Glad to hear they took care of you as they should. One thing to always try first though is replacing the cable. ZWO sends the cameras with a little bit lower quality cable than what I'd like to use.
    Glad to see you're getting taken care of in a good way.
    Sam Wen at ZWO is really a customer oriented guy. I had an issue a couple of years ago and sent him an email (his email address is on the website). He responded super-fast and had my replacement cam on-the-way before he sent the RMA number. That's service!
    Needless to say, I stick with ZWO products from now on.
    BTW: That's a nice shot too.
    Well that'll try your sanity. I tried a little of the spot healing brush on CS2 just now. I know there's no magic bullet but what little I did let me know that fixing this image wouldn't be a job as much as a career.
    At least now I have a tool for the images with the new camera.
    Thanks for steering me in the right direction.
    Went ahead and stacked the other shot I had and would you know it, the artifacts weren't there. Did a quick run through PS CS2 for levels, curves and some sharpening.
    Any processing suggestions? It's been a while.
    Well done, GCG!
    The moon is difficult for me to process. I'm fine with something like the sun, but the exterior light-source in a moon shot makes it much more difficult for me.
    I like your image as it is. However, I wonder if a High Pass filter set around 6 pixels (blend mode to "soft light") would bring out some details a little better while keeping the bright crater edges sharp????
    We do that a lot on solar images. I'll sometimes run two passes over it and just lower the opacity on the second one to get it blended in well.
    Not bad. It'll be fun playing with that.
