Default New Astronomik EOS Clip Filter - M48 adapter

I don't know if you've seen this but Gerd Neumann now stock an adapter that lets you use an Astronomik EOS Clip filter in situations where you only have a 2-inch (M48) thread.

I've just ordered one... will save me a fortune because I can use my collection of clip filters on two "DSLR" cameras (one of which only has an M48 thread).

Very neat Phil! Great idea and it will save a fortune. I wonder since the filter will be moved away from the sensor a bit, will we notice the vignetting?

Chuck - Good question - I'm not sure how far away from the sensor the clip filter can be before visible vignetting occurs - probably not too far... I guess I'll "take one for the team" and find out!

However, it costs more to ship it to the US (twice as much) than it costs to purchase.

Yikes! What's the cost in $ including shipping?

24 Euro for the filter adapter and 40 Euro to ship it....worse part is that he was at NEAF and I could have bought one there.....

I emailed Gerd and it will cost 30 Euro total. The website calculates cost with VAT and domestic shipping. Go figure, 60 Euro to buy it in their own country and 30 Euro for me to buy it. Anyway, I ordered one as well. It will save a ton in filter costs. I also think the vignetting will be minimal so we will both be experimenting Phil.

Default Re: New Astronomik EOS Clip Filter - M48 adapter

Quick follow-up.. my adapter arrived 3 days ago. UK Postage was 5 Euros or so (signed-for delivery).

It is well made, holds the clip filters and fits nicely into my Baader t-ring (which has an M48 thread available on the camera side - you have to install the filter "backwards" in the adapter so it is facing the correct way in respect to the sensor...)

Because the clip filters are rectangular, you have to figure out the correct orientation of filter vs sensor in the adapter to avoid vignetting when the adapter is screwed into place. Once I'd figured this out I marked the adapter so everything lines up when I change filters.

I may consider buying a couple more adapters so that I can just unscrew the adapter+filter from the t-ring.

I will try and take some pics tomorrow.

Excellent Phil! Interesting on the rectangular orientation. I never thought of that.
