    Default #@$@#$%^! Ap

First of all I am now tight on cash.. We started full price rent. And I get layed off over the Holidays starting end of Sept.. can only work a temp gig for a year. The have to take a break... Good news is they want me back afterwards that is not always the case with these jobs.

But the 6 month spending spree is over.. even sold Phoenix

Finally tonight even with the moon.. I am imaging!!! Teh air is pretty dry.. so the moon is not totally washing out the sky...
I haven't Modified the Canon yet.. but I have a Heutech LPS filter

It is more of mount test run taking 10 shots at 30 60 90 and 120 seconds to see how well I am guiding.. but hey I think I will have a decent image.

    I have the used 450D
    I have the Autoguider
    I have PHD
    I have Backyard EOS

I can sit and run the who darn thing from the PC and chair and not touch the mount.. EXCEPT.......

Now I want an ASCOM focuser @#$@#$@# AP.... I can add one to my focuser for a few hundred...but right now I don't have it...

I know I don't need it.. but BYEOS is great.. good buy focusing mask!!! just have to wait between tweeks for the scope to settle down.

I will post images etc tommorrow. when I crawl out of bed...

It's 5am I will be scope lagged all day and may be out again't tonight. We may hit 90's so usually means less water in the air...
Last night was really good for a night with an 90% moon.

Before packing it in.. Jupiter visually was stunning.. the seeing was good enough.. not only could a see bands.. I could see some texture in the bands AND some color..hint of gray brown.

I have lots of Dumbel data and more.. will write it up later..

I might cus at the AP.. but tonight made me happy.

Glad to hear your finally out catching some photon's! I haven't been able to get out for close to 2 weeks now.

I hear you about the focuser. I can run everything from the obsy except focusing! Remote focuser is on my list but there's a few other "goodies" I want first.

Looking forward to seeing your image.

Congrats on getting some imaging accomplished...

I hear you and share your feeling about a remote focuser... That will be the very next item on my list as well...

I have DSLR camera lenses that can be used with the BYE focusing utility and they have me spoiled such that when I put the camera on the scope, I'm lost without the remote focusing capability. I'm presently exploring the JMI Smart Focuser, as soon as I have enough information as to how it mounts and hooks up and can confirm its software compatibility, if all goes as planned, by the end of the month if not sooner, I'll be making the purchase...
    Thanks, Mitch - K1FH

ya, this hobby is definitely a money pit.. glad to hear you're out getting stuff now.

I had some ideas for rigging a cheap jury rigged electronic focuser up to my smaller scope using an old RA motor from an EQ4/5 non goto upgrade kit.. if you have old parts like that it'd be easy to. basically the idea was to mount the RA or Dec motor to the scope, run a band to the fine focus knob, then use the hand controller (modified easily to add an ST-4 port), with shoestring astronomy's GPUSB to connect it to compatible software.. may sound confusing but I'm pretty sure it's a cheap way of doing it. PM me if you want details, or parts to try it, I have a bunch gathered here that I'll probably never use (including all needed for this, just no mounting hardware)...

    finally awake...
It was a good night.. even with the moon more than 40degress away and the skies were not much worse than my stupid LP..
Jupiter was just amazing.. if I hadn't toasted my battery I would have pulled out the SPC webcam too.. but computer was dead.. may be time to run extension cord to BY for PC and camera.

This was my first run with BYEOS and I of course never read the directions.. that is a really nice piece of software..
I bought the full version with ASCOM focuser support.. just in case Someone was selling ALMOST the right motor for my focuser..might happen again after work starts up again in the end the focusing feature in BYEOS means no more leaving the mask on.. or messing up my alignment putting the dew shield back on etc.

Just finishing my coffee.. need to calc shipping for some stuff I just sold on AstroMart.. and then start processing my data. It looked like even my 5 minute subs had good round stars. this is really the first time I have finally had it all running after buying the scope for AP 6 months ago!!
