Default For Sale/Trade Vintage Celestron/Vixen 60mm Cometron, Vixen EQ

I have for your consideration, a very nice mid '70's vintage Celestron 60mm Cometron with Vixen Optics, and Vixen Polaris EQ mount.

This is a metal tube refractor, not the cheaply-made plastic version from the Haley era. The optics are very good to excellent, with no scratches on the objective. The tube shows some scratches that are down to bare metal, I have included a photo showing them. The finder is good also.

The mount is the original Vixen Polaris EQ/ALT-AZ mount, with what I believe to be Baltic Birch long legs, with the accessory tray. The prior owner bent the edges of the tray, it is entirely fixable. The mount shows normal wear, with some scratching around the RA housing, again, I included photos of the scratching. The mount is smooth-operating, however the next owner may want to invest some time and strip the mount down, clean the what i'm sure is factory grease, and re-grease the mount.

The long flexible shaft adjuster has a cracked collar, and is held in-place with a hose clamp.

It comes with the original Vixen triangular shaped (Tupperware style) accessory holder, which fits in the accessory tray. I have the 2 eyepieces that come with it, A Celestron 6,, Ortho (Japan), a Meade MA12mm, and the ever-deadly Vixen Sun filter (un-cracked). The tripod leg wrench, and allen head wrench are included also.

This setup is somewhere around 33 years old, optically its very good, the mount really needs re-greased. I understand that motors are available from several sources to make this fine mount track.

Originally I purchased this setup for my Father, but at 83 years old, his eyes just arent working well anymore, and he asked me to keep or sell the setup.

I really dont know what the whole package is worth. Ive seen the mounts sell for the $250-ish mark, and the OTA for about the same. Please make me a reasonable offer!

I would think about a Canon ONLY DSLR (Digic 4 or newer), no other brands.

More pictures are available if you have specific needs.

    Thanks for looking!
