    Default Dakota Starwatch: Book Review

This book is part of a series of location specific astronomy books (i.e. Minnesota starwatch, New Jersey Starwatch, etc.). However I doubt there is very much difference between these books. There was very little information that was actaully Dakota specific.

The book contained usefull information, but nothing that can't be found in other beginner books. The information on buying telescopes is very limited. The star charts (which actually are region specific and include one for each month) have minimal information on them so as to not overwhelm the beginner. The majority of the book describes the constellations (divided by seasons) and lists a few of the DSO's to be found in that region. The best part of these sections is the mythology behind the constellations told with some modern elements (and these elements are a little amusing).

Overall not a bad book, but there are certainly better ones out there. I would recomend this to someone who is just looking for something to read when cloudy; but for the beginner they may wish to find a book with broader and more detailed information. If you can get a deal on this book (I got mine on E-bay for $5.00) it is worht the money. I do not however think that the cover price of $24.95 is worth it when there are better books for about the same price or a little more.

I consider this to be an average book; nothing spectacular.
