    Default Any writers on here?

I guess not many post on forums but, apart from a genuine desire to help other astronomers, forums tell me what people are interested in and the types of problems that they may face. Most of us past the beginner phase tend to specialise in one or more branches of the hobby. Although my specialities are solar and DSLR photography, I enjoy a good read from specialists in other areas.

Well I guess we are all writers who post on AF.
I have sometimes felt compelled to write a book on astronomy for beginners and had even begun the effort but have always crumbled after a few pages in, realizing that within several paragraphs I had lost the plot and was talking about resolution, aperture, seeing etc- Nothing that a newbie needs or wants to know from the get go.
It must be difficult and require a disciplined mind to keep to the basics. Anyway it's been done by writers that I could never hope to emulate.
I'll just stick to Christmas cards....

I enjoy writing including astronomy and have a blog that I post to regularly (in the financial field). I wrote a long dissertation (376 pages) for my doctoral degree back in 2000. I have yet to write any other books, but hope to start soon. In the meantime I participate in this and other forums reflecting my interests. I would like to write an introductory astronomy book as well, targeted at beginners, but I feel like I haven't quite honed my skills enough as an observer to be a real authority. Thinking of guys like Patrick Moore and James Muirden gives me inspiration, but it's probably not a standard that I will ever be able to reach.

I enjoy writing quite a bit and have composed over 1300 pages relate to my observing. It's all stupid silly stuff, but someday it may become Bladekeeper's Astronomical Bathroom Reader. I'll have it printed on four-ply tissue for the most comfort.

I also write high fantasy and historical fiction. Betcha can't guess what my pen name is.

Just kidding. I don't have pen name.

    Bryan,

Here's the beauty of your plan. After reading Bladekeeper's Astronomical Bathroom Reader cleverly printed on 4 ply tissue, the reader will be rewarded with their very own Charmin Telescope.

PS. I was going to post the pic from your album for those members that don't know about your Charmin Scope but thought it in bad forum etiquette to post pics from another member's album.

    Phillip,

One of our moderators, sxinias, has published a couple of volumes on astrophotography.

    https://www.springer.com/us/book/9783319098302

Rod Mollise used to be an active participant on AF but seems to mostly frequent CN these days. Seems to be a lot more astronomy writers on CN.

I can think of a couple more that write professionally but not about astronomy.

Of course, many of us write and submit articles for our club newsletters, and even one or two have contributed to Sky & Telescope, etc.

Member KT4HX has published several monthly series on deep sky observing as well as providing exquisitely detailed observing reports all here on the forum.

    @Mark, pics? Of course!

@Rick, nothing wrong with that sort of posting in my mind. At least with regards to the TP40!
