Matt: thanks for the link to the SOHO faq. By following a few links from there I finally got an answer to my question about an odd-looking thing on one sequence I saw ages back.

I mailed them back then and got no answer, and couldn't figure it out myself - it definitely wasn't an artifact, it wasn't debris, it wasn't a planet.. it looked like a comet, but that seemed unlikely (especially one passing in front of the camera and not getting widely reported). Turns out it WAS a comet, and they've caught quite a few on camera! (No 'comet showers' though unfortunately )

So, some good came of an otherwise sad looking thread.

i, personally, could care less if you kick me from this forum or not, they're a dime a dozen, i came here simply to ask questions and hopefully learn some stuff.

but that was cut short when i noticed it's full of arrogant pricks who have the theory that simply because they know more about a topic than others, they have the right to make people feel somewhat "uneducated".

do with my account as you wish, i'll find a place with a better community and people who are willing to share information without the sarcasm and immaturity.

of course, you only punish one side of this argument (the newcommer) as opposed to the one who's been here for a while, of which gaining superiority, and being able to say what he wishes without punishment.

if that's what this community is about, then by all means, delete this account, i'll be headed back to google.

i thought you'd be a little more considering of the fact that it takes two to argue, not just "don't insult people i know, although they can insult you"

nothing more for me to say.

so is this a community with superiority or one for learning?

EDIT'D: also, not to be a tattle tail, but if you'll read this entire thread, you'll find out that your buddy matt is the one whom came on this thread insulting me.
    not vice versa.

Winters: Without actually seeing the video (can't be bothered, as I'm somewhat busy now)...

Bright object coming out of the sun: planet. Possibly a comet, too. A planet will be bright with colour bleed sticking out like points at the sides, a comet will be similar but will probably have a tail visible.

'Comet shower': most likely an image artifact (star trails make patterns like this when the scope moves, combine that with a period of normal exposure when it points back at the sun and you'll get an image like the one you posted). Could also be cosmic rays or whatever streaking across the image sensor, that causes streaks.

White flash: some kind of artifact/scope issue/software issue causing either the image to get seriously overexposed or the software to throw out a screen full of white pixels. I imagine both are pretty common.

thank you, this is all i wanted to know. although the object comming from the sun indeed does come out of the sun at that spot, there is nothing on the other side of the sun prior to it, which rules out it being a planet or a star, or does it? and also, it travels faster than the speed at which the satellite is going, so everything else almost sits still as it roams to the left at a higher speed.

We should not let children on this forum, and there should be a separate topic area for crackpot ideas and postings.

Matt: there's no crackpot ideas on this thread - he just described what he saw in the video (not exactly in a professional way, and the terminology is way out perhaps, but it's still clear enough what he means). Then he asks us what's actually happening, what the bright object is and if the streaks are asteroids. To me, that's just a guy seeing something interesting that he doesn't understand, and wanting to learn more about it. It was you that mentioned the crackpot ideas if you read back

I'm guessing that there's a bit more to this (as in previous threads), if so I can certainly understand where you're coming from. But I do think your attack was a bit unfounded here on this one.
