Default Need some help with barlows

I dont know much about barlows except they up the magnification of your eye pieces. Right now I have a 30mm 2" ep, 25mm 1.25, 9mm, and a 6mm. I wanted to get a 2x barlow so I can have a 12.5 and a 4.5mm. Would it be best to use the barlow with the 25 and 9mm eyepieces or just buy the 12.5 and 4mm eyepieces? If it would be best to go with the barlow whats a good economical one? They will be used on my 8" zhummel dob. Thanks.

Hi Rebus ...Get a 2in. Barlow ..That way you can use all three eyepieces with it .. The good quality 2in. Barlow's usually come with a 1.25 adapter ... Try these guys Agena AstroProducts - Telescopes, Eyepieces, Binoculars and Accessories for the Astronomy Enthusiast with FREE US Shipping You would have a 30mm,15mm,.....25mm,12.5mm ,.... and 9mm,4.5mm,...and for real stable nights a 6mm,and a 3mm .....Oh yea ...they make 1.5x 2x 3x Barlow's 4x and 5x Barlow's but the latter three might be a little overpowering for your scope ...

I don't think you need to spend a lot of money on the "best" barlow.

I bought a Seben 2x barlow off E-Bay for about $30 delivered to my mailbox.

Read the review here, comparing a cheap barlow to the high-end Teleview.

Thanks for the input. It looks as if everyone is suggesting going with the barlow instead of individual eyepieces. I found the gso on sale for $21. I may go with that.

What ever you buy , make sure it is fully multicoated ...More light transmissions to the eye is always a good thing .....And it at all possible , threaded for filters ...

They have the 2" 2x ED GSO Barlow in stock at Agena right now. I highly recommend that one.
