Default Did I hear a meteor?

Hi. I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but why not.
I have a question about something strange that happened once and I'm wondering if maybe a met.

It was a sunny day. I was inside and all of a sudden I saw a bright white flash outside that seemed to span all of our front windows. My dad was in another room with a window to the back of the house; he said he didn't see anything but he heard a boom. My sister was upstairs and she said she saw a bright red flash from out a back window.

Any idea what this could have been?

Hi Alpert, and welcome to Astronomy Forum. We have chunks of stuff, natural and man-made, coming in through our atmosphere 24/7/365. Lucky thing we are as protected as we are. For you to hear the audible "report" and flash of such is not at all surprising, given size and proximity.

Make yourself comfy, here, if you'd like. We have a very friendly mix of old timers and newcommers, alike. You are most welcome.
