Question Software: stars from Earth and filter only nearby stars...

    Hi,

Does anyone know of software (Mac OS or Windows 10, preferably free or low-cost) which:

    1) allows user to view stars from Earth, and

    2) allows user to filter so it shows only near-by stars (say < 50 LY away)?

FYI I know Stellarium does not do this.

    Thanks!

I see you haven’t been on the forum for a while. You may not be aware of developments in the last year. The forum is dying, suffering from administrative neglect and a resulting spambot attack. Most of the members have moved over to The Sky Searchers (https://theskysearchers.com)

I pop in from time to time and this is very unfortunate. This was once a vibrant and brilliant community. Jeff had pointed me towards the new community awhile back but as per usual, life got in the way. I may have to register an account over there. RIP Astronomy Forum.....
