Lightbulb Looking to buy first Telescope

    Hey there,

So, Im looking to buy my first telescope within the next month or two. I live in the light polluted area of Tampa Fl.

I have done some digging around and thought i found two that i would enjoy having and like my outcomes with; but the more research i do on them, the more disappointed i am in what ive been finding.

Im wanting to get this telescope to hopefully view planets, other galaxies and other deep sky objects. Eventually i will try to navigate towards astrophotography, but i should probably start with the basics for now lol.

What would be a good telescope for a beginner, that can do this?

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated honestly!!!

Please do see this thread: Before you sign up... Important Notice!!

What is good for visual, especially as a beginner instrument, is almost always quite unsuitable for astrophotography.

    What is your budget?

Dobsonian telescopes offer the most aperture for your money and are great telescopes on deep sky objects. They do a tolerable job on planets as well.

A nice 4" refractor is a fun scope too.

This will largely hinge on your budget, though. What were the two you have initially picked out?

Again, please see the thread linked to above and hope to see you over on the new forum.

Im about to move over to TSS, but i will answer here as well. lol

The first one i was looking at was the "Orion 09007 Space Probe 130ST" and the second was the "Celestron Nexstar 130SLT". BUt the more reviews i look at, some planets and star clusters dont look as clear as i guess i was hoping. Granted i do not know anyone with any kind of telescope for this, so i haven't had the pleasure of looking through one myself.

I am willing to spend up to about $700 for my first scope and a maybe few colored filters/lenses.

I'm aware what i start with probably wont be good enough for astrophotography, which is totally fine. I am looking to start with just the telescope so i can familiarize myself better with space, navigation, so on and so forth. That way when im ready for astrophotography, im a tad more prepared and knowledgeable about my subjects.

    Thank you guys

My Orion 6i is nice, but light pollution kills my image in small 6". Got this telescope as my first because it has a computer to help me get familiar with astronomy before i start star hoping on my own
