Default Help with Meade LX90 in toronto

    Hi
I have bought a Meade LX90 8 telescope in Toronto. Im wondering if anyone else has the same model and knows how to align it for the autostar function. Ive seen several YouTube videos and read the manual. Im struggling to align the telescope as it locks on to the gps signal fine, Ive set the date and time. The telescope starts out at magnetic north then just rotates endlessly. The pan and tilt seems to work fine. Im powering it from an external power adapter so its not low battery or anything silly.

Im sure Im doing something wrong and wonder if anyone else in Ontario has this same model and can assist me.

    A couple of things:
You should not have to set the date or time if the GPS/LNT is working.
The red dot finder must be connected to one of the auxiliary ports of the mount or the automatic align will not work.
(The red dot finder contains the sensors for north and level).
If you re-align the red dot finder you need to "Calibrate sensors" again.
That is the best I can do based on the limited information you have provided.
If can provide more detail perhaps I can help more.

Just an update. I tried calling the store I bought the telescope and associated kit from (Khan telescope in Toronto) and the guy was really unhelpful. He said he doesn’t help people with issues either book a service for which there is a very long wait time and charge or go away. Also don’t come with in 1 hour of closing time. So I went directly to Meade for support. They said the telescope autostar is faulty and are shipping replacement boards out. Very disappointed with khan. The guy is really aweful at customer services and generally unpleasant to be around.

Khan has always had a bit of a bad reputation with customer service.
Perceptor (KW Telescope) is a good company to deal with.

It is good that Meade is taking care of the problem for you though.

+1 on the KW Telescope recommendation. They are in Kitchener Waterloo and the owner Brian and his daughter Shannon are extremely helpful. They will help even if you did not buy the scope there. Their website is currently down for maintenance but they are at 25 Manitou Dr in Kitchener and their phone number is easily found. Best of luck with the Meade (by the way KW sells Meade so they know the scope).

Khan telescopes has a long and terrible record of abysmal customer service. That is how customers are treated, unless, perhaps, you spend tens of thousands of dollars on the best equipment. Read the google reviews for yourself. Even better, read the owner's responses to people's legitimate complaints. You got off easy. https://www.google.ca/search?safe=of...0aa75e234,1,,,

I have never dealt with Khan (lucky me?) but I have disassembled and rebuilt a couple of LX90s and an LX90 GPS is my main scope. Let us know how you make out. If worst comes to worst I am only about 160k away.
